Valery Shantsev about Strigino’s new passenger terminal: “The construction is sensible, the order is almost ideal”

On 19 March, Strigino International Airport held a visiting meeting directed by the governor of the Nizhni Novgorod Oblast Valery Shantsev. The head of the region assessed the progress of the construction of the new passenger terminal: walked about of the construction site, looked at the results of the work executed by the contractor and plan for the second quarter of 2015.

“The readiness of the main terminal building at the moment has reached 90%,” said the constructors. “It will be fully completed in April. At the moment, the central distribution substation for power supply of the terminal is accomplished, the external 6 kV power supply and the heating network are also completed and put into operation. In the near future we will begin the installation of translucent constructions - stained glass and windows, pipelines, outdoor lighting, subflooring, interior and exterior decoration. Also within half-year period we will carry out the installation of operational equipment, the improvement of the forecourt, set up the pedestrian areas and the curbside.

All in all we have already excavated 46,000 m3 of the ground, placed 19 000 m3 of concrete, laid 2800 rm of the external pipelines and drainage, assembled 800 tons of metal frame and 500 tons of metal roofing.”

“The construction is on schedule, all promises made at the groundbreaking ceremony are carried out in full,” said International Airport of Nizhny Novgorod executive director Alexander Sinelnikov. “By October 2015 we plan to complete the general construction work, and in December, as agreed, open the new terminal and see the New Year in there.”

“The construction is sensible, the order is almost ideal,” stated the governor Valery Shantsev at the end of walkabout. “This venue will give us 1.5 million passengers per year - the conditions are very different, the situation is different as well. Nizhny Novgorod deserves such airport! But the approach to transport infrastructure development shall be comprehensive - developing the air transport we must not forget the railway and highway service. Therefore, the expansion of Molodezhny Prospect is in progress, we will install Strigino railway station ensuring connection with Moskovsky railway station. The combination of road, rail and air transport will allow to organize a modern hub on the basis of the airport.”

Gazelle Next will deliver wheelchair users to the aircraft at Strigino

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) puts a new medical special vehicle on the basis of Gazelle Next into operation. This multi-purpose vehicle built so far in a single copy was first presented in Moscow at specialized exhibition Health-2014, where it earned a high expert evaluation.

Modular special vehicle is designed for transportation of sick passengers and delivery of wheelchair users to the aircraft. The rear doors are used for unloading/loading stretchers, lateral double swing door - to tilt/fold the lifting device. Medical equipment Class A allows to administer first aid to a patient in comfortable conditions, and, if necessary, to carry out resuscitation. For reference: in 2014 Strigino Airport recorded more than 50 requests for medical assistance from the aircraft.

Delivery of disabled passengers from the terminal to the aircraft will become more convenient. The electric device with lifting capacity up to 230 kg installed in the modular special vehicle ensures fully automated loading and unloading of a passenger in the wheelchair. Particular attention was paid to safety: enhanced tie-down straps are provided to secure the wheelchair and special blocking elements prevent the car from moving until the loading is completed. Also there is enough space in the minibus compartment to transport medical attendants and folded wheelchairs.

All in all to date 9 buses and cars are involved in passenger handling at Strigino Airport.

Expansion of Strigino Airport‘s catering: more space, more opportunities

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) has completed the reorganization of the catering service. Now Strigino catering is spun off into a separate structure, as a result, airlines and passengers will be provided with a higher level of service.

The catering production moved to new redecorated premises equipped according to all rules and regulations imposed on catering companies. The area occupied by Strigino catering increased from 300 to 700 square meters: the 1 floor is designed for administration offices, the 2nd floor accommodates production including a hot and cold kitchen and a packing room. In addition, catering is now located in the airport territory, close to the runway (formerly - in the hotel facilities), which enables to avoid additional security procedures and ensures timely delivery of catering to the aircraft.

The assortment of Strigino catering is updated twice a year for the beginning of the spring-and-summer and autumn-and-winter season the chefs develop recipes of the new dishes. In addition to standard rations for economy and business class passengers, airport catering can offer vegetarian, baby and national menu - almost any dish on request of the airlines. From 15 April, catering services of Airports of Regions Group (Yekaterinburg, Samara, Rostov-on-Don and Nizhny Novgorod airports) will move to the uniform service level.

At the moment, Strigino Airport catering is designed to produce 1000 rations per day and more. In the short term, considering the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 these volumes will be significantly increased.

Strigino Airport holds a winter spotting event

Yesterday Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) gathered fans of aviation photography. A group of Nizhny Novgorod spotters was given a chance to come out into the airfield and for six hours capture aircraft takeoffs and landings, operations, aircraft and passenger handling. Bloggers also had access to the roof of the existing passenger terminal, where they were able to take unique photos.

The event started with the departure of Aeroflot’s Airbus A320 to Sheremetyevo Airport. This was followed by S7 Airline’s Airbus A319 and UTair-Express’s ATR-72 arrivals from Moscow, Dexter’s Pilatus-12 from Saratov, departures to Samara, Kirov and Nizhnekamsk … Air taxi Dexter certainly became "The Hero of the Day", within a few hours of spotting the Pilatus took off and landed six times.

The demonstration of Strigino Airport’s new snow cleaners added diversity: the spotters could see how easily and effectively Schmidt jet sweepers clean the apron and how Zaugg snow blower collects snow and throws it dozens of meters away.

As for the aircraft, special interest of the spotters was attracted to the Superjet in original livery “75th Anniversary of Sukhoi”. The airliner was filmed from all sides on the parking stand and at the moment of departure (the plane performed a charter flight with a sports team going to competitions).

Plane spotting activities have already become a tradition for Strigino Airport. The next such event is planned for summer 2015.

In 2015, Airports of Regions Management Company will continue to implement the program of reconstruction and development of the existing airport complex and the construction of Strigino’s new passenger terminal.

Layouts of StriginoAirport’s new passenger terminal are approved

The layouts of Nizhny Novgorod International Airport’s new passenger terminal (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) are approved by all stakeholders involved in passenger handling including government regulatory agencies. The parties agreed on location and floor area of all three levels of the terminal, boarding bridges, basements, passages and elevators, placement of checkpoints and screening equipment.

The operational areas of the new terminal will feature spaciousness and comfort, as well as clear and consistent navigation. The departure lounges will overlook the airfield. For reference: the new terminal meets level of comfort C (good level of service with the conditions for a constant traffic flow) according to the International Air Transport Association classification, as well as modern requirements of aviation, border and customs security.

According to the project, the 1st floor of the new passenger terminal will accommodate lounges for general public, including check-in areas, mother and child room with nurseries, medical station, baggage lockers, cafes and shops. The 2nd floor will house a pre-flight check area (common for domestic and international passengers), customs and passport control posts for passengers on international flights, waiting lounges, Duty Free shops for international passengers and Duty Paid for domestic passengers, as well as offices of airlines representatives. The third floor will be almost entirely intended for the arrival gallery, offices and technical facilities of the airport services. All three floors will be accessible for people with limited mobility thanks to the elevators and ramps. The new passenger terminal also comprises 4 boarding bridges adjacent to 2 stationary departure gates.

As a reminder: the commissioning of the VFD capital‘s new terminal is planned for December 2015. The capacity of the modern airport complex with a total area of 27.8 thousand sq. meters will be more than 1.5 million persons per year. For the comfort and convenience of passengers spacious lounges, shops and cafes will be placed on an area of over 1500 square meters, the parking lot is designed for 700 cars. A distinctive feature of the new airport complex will be a modern baggage handling system and an automatic queue management system in the passenger handling areas.

Strigino’s ornithological service acquires a goshawk

To improve the aviation safety Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding) has acquired a goshawk. Using a hawk is part of an action plan undertaken to ensure ornithological safety at Strigino: bio-acoustic equipment emitting the distress calls of birds, gas gun, mirror balls, as well as cutting down bushes and grass mowing.

Goshawk is a young female, two years old, grown in the wild. Now the bird is in the process of habituation to its new owner, the airport’s ornithologist, training to hand feed and sit on the glove on command.

The studies prove that to scare birds away from the airport a hawk needn’t be on the prowl, its presence is enough to cause the other feathered tribe to panic. In this case, crows, gulls, sparrows begin to cry in distress and fly away, and what is more, return to the former place no earlier than in 2-3 weeks. As soon as the hawk takes the necessary training, the airport’s ornithologist will start regular patrol of the airport territory.

Specially trained goshawks and falcons are used to scare birds away at many airports in Russia and around the world.

Passenger traffic st Strigino went up by 25.5% in 11 months

The total passenger flow at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport year-to-date amounted to 1,065,454 people showing a 25.5% gain compared to the year-ago period. Domestic air travel rose 29.2% (547,752 passengers), and international traffic level was up by 21.9% (517,702 passengers). Airport saw 8721 aircraft departures recording a 14.2 % year over year increase. Freight and mail traffic climbed 11.2 % (899.4 tons).

Since the beginning of 2014, 38 airlines serviced 63 scheduled destinations, out of them 29 were domestic and 9 international. Traditional leaders in the passenger traffic were Moscow, Antalya, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and St. Petersburg.

Strigino continues to update its motor fleet: a new jet sweeper and a bus for business passengers

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport saw a new expansion of its motor fleet. The airfield service now has extra special vehicles for snow removal and passenger service department obtained a new minibus for servicing business passengers.

The vehicle park is supplemented by the second Schmidt TJS-630 jet sweeper (the first was purchased last winter) having clearing speed of up to 40 km/h, which in combination with high quality of cleaning is essential for the airport under heavy snowfalls. Special brushes can clear up to 5.2 meters of the runway surface in one pass. For reference: Schmidt is one of the world's leading manufacturers of snow cleaners for major airports and utility companies in Europe and Moscow.

Besides Schmidt jet sweepers, Strigino Airport utilizes universal sweeper JetBroom to remove snow and ice from the runway and apron. All in all, now for these purposes the airport can employ three units of modern imported vehicles, as well as 13 other vehicles and mechanical devices.

A 14-seater Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be the second minibus to deliver business class passengers to the aircraft. New Mercedes is spacious, equipped with climate control with individual settings, comfortable seats and automatic door. In addition, two executive class Audis are also used to service business passengers.

«Meals on Board» service becomes available for Strigino’s passengers

The passengers of Nizhny Novgorod International Airport can now choose dishes they want to take on board according to their liking. This week two airports of Airports of Regions Holding - Koltsovo (Ekaterinburg) and Strigino (Nizhny Novgorod) have launched a project to provide a new «Meals on Board» service.

The Nizhny Novgorod Airport’s partner for the project became Shocoladnitsa Coffee Shop, which has long worked at the airport. For the new service Shocoladnitsa has developed a special offer including about 70% of its total assortment range: a variety of fruit salads, lasagna and pasta, tiramisu and strudel, oatmeal and cottage cheese, pancakes with various fillings, cheesecakes, etc. In addition, there is a 10 percent discount on all «Meals on Board» service menu. You may find out about possible choices on the website.

The customer may make an order directly at the coffee shop or in advance by telephone, and receive and pay for it before departure at the airport. An important note: If you pick up «Meals on Board» in the coffee shops located in the airside international and domestic lounges, it is even possible to take drinks and soups on board.* The meals are packed in lunch boxes.

«Our company, together with the catering operators at Nizhny Novgorod and Ekaterinburg Airports, sought to create a new convenient service for passengers. Quite a lot of passengers arrive at the terminal shortly before departure and would like to take freshly prepared hot meals on board the aircraft, the dishes of their choice,» said Airports of Regions MC’s Director for Non-Aviation Commerce Tatiana Batenyova. «In addition, this service will compensate for the lack of catering on board the aircraft during short flights, provide extra meals for long trips, and also on "Meals on Board" menu you can find the dishes that children love. »

* According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recommendations, liquids shall be carried on board in the hand baggage in containers with a capacity no greater than 100 ml and a total capacity of up to a liter. But as the retail stores in the airside areas and Duty Free shops are located beyond the pre-flight check points and their goods have already been checked by aviation security, the restrictions on the amount of liquids purchased in these areas are removed.

Half a year of Strigino’s new passenger terminal construction: the erection of roof and facades begins

Exactly six months ago, on June 10, 2014 - Strigino International Airport began the construction of the new Nizhny Novgorod terminal. At the moment, the reinforced concrete and metal structures of the building frame are almost fully completed. The builders have come close to the erection of the building envelope – the roof on the metal frame and facades, in the near future they will also initiate the installation of the transition bridge between the towers of the boarding bridges and the new terminal building. The work is being carried out 24 hours a day, about 300 workers and more than 30 units of modern construction equipment are employed.

Czech company PSJ, the general contractor, is keeping to the construction schedule with 100 percent accuracy. The construction progress is under the strict control of the investor, Airports of Regions Management Company, and authorities. The head of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Valery Shantsev conducts a regular inspection of the construction, and on November 18, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov visited the site in the framework of the working visit to prepare the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast for the World Cup 2018.

For reference: the commissioning of the VFD capital’s new terminal is planned for December 2015. The modern airport terminal with a total area of 27.8 thousand square meters will be equipped with 4 air bridges, its capacity will exceed 1.5 million passengers per year. For the comfort and convenience of passengers, spacious lounges, shops and cafes will be placed on an area of over 1500 square meters, parking lot is designed for 800 cars. Strigino Airport introduces early check-in

Since December 15, Nizhny Novgorod International Airport will start to open check-in for international flights 4 hours*, for domestic - 3 hours before departure (at present check-in at Strigino begins as at most airports in Russia: for domestic flights - 2 hours and for international - three hours before departure).

Extension of check-in time will become a new step towards enhancing the quality of passenger service. The innovation is designed to improve the conditions of stay at the airport for those passengers who for whatever reasons are forced to come to the terminal well in advance. Now they will be able to check-in earlier, drop off their baggage and spend time in the airside international or domestic waiting lounges.

For reference: Aeroflot, UTair, Ural Airlines, Ak Bars Aero, Transaero, Lufthansa, Finnair and S7 passengers can check-in online on the airline website. For Aeroflot, UTair, Transaero, Ak Bars Aero and S7 flights it is also possible to print out the boarding pass using the printers installed at the airport.

As a next step in improving the service quality Strigino Airport will introduce 24 hour prior check-in.

* Except Lufthansa and Finnair flights.

Aircraft deicing at Strigino is certified by the Federal Air Transport Agency

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport confirmed the compliance of its aircraft deicing services with the requirements of the Federal Air Transport Agency (FATA). Thus, the preparation of Strigino Airport for the autumn-and-winter period can be considered fully completed.

Aircraft deicing is an important part of aircraft ground handling procedures in the cold season under the flight safety rules. According to the committee of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Strigino Airport has the right to sell the complete cycle of the procedures necessary to get ready for aircraft deicing: storage, preparation of mixture, delivery of de-icing liquids to the deicers. The certificate was issued by the Federal Air Transport Agency for the period of 3 years.

On-site aircraft treatment at Strigino Airport is performed by two aircraft deicers - John Bean Technologies Tempest II and Sterling MT 35. Operational personnel involved in the procedure passed appropriate training at Kurumoch International Airport (Samara). The available machines and qualification of the personnel make it possible to deice all types of aircraft the airport can receive: starting from 9-seater Cessna C-280 to 320-seater Boeing 767-300.

All in all, in the winter period of 2013-2014 Strigino Airport’s ground handling service deiced 735 aircraft. Since the beginning of the season more than 70 aircraft have already been processed.

Strigino passenger traffic grew by 28 percent in 10 months

In October Nizhny Novgorod International Airport handled 92,947 passengers, which is 16.4% more than the figure of the same prior year period. 51,843 passengers (+14.09%) were serviced in the domestic airlines and 41,104 passengers (+ 19.5%) - in the international airlines.

The largest increase in passenger traffic in October demonstrated charter flights to Sharm el-Sheikh (9.4 times in comparison with October 2013), Hurghada (5.6 times) and Nha Trang (3.1 times). Among the scheduled domestic services a rise was recorded on routes to Ulyanovsk (6.8 times), Belgorod (2.8 times) and Saratov (2.2 times). The main growth driver in most cases was a significant increase in the frequencies. In October, the most punctual airlines turned to be UTair-Express and Finnair, more than 92% of all their flights were completed on schedule.

Over the past 10 months Strigino Airport served 992,985 passengers, which is 28% more than in 2013. The domestic passenger flow amounted to 501,878 (a 32.2% gain compared to the year-ago period), 491,107 travelers chose international destinations (+ 23.9%). The number of departures was 16.9% higher (8143), freight and mail demand expanded by11.7% (819 tons).

For reference: on November 6, Strigino served the one millionth passenger year-to-date, and now Nizhny Novgorod Airport has passed into a category of million airports.

Strigino for first time in 20 years has become a million airport

The one millionth passenger of the year 2014 has been checked in at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) earlier today. It is a momentous event not only for Nizhny Novgorod Airport which passed to the higher size category in terms of passenger traffic, but for the entire region's transport infrastructure.

The one millionth passenger of Strigino Airport turned to be 30-year-old Nizhny Novgorod citizen Andrew Kurnyshev, departing on Aeroflot flight SU1221 to Moscow. He received a certificate for annual business lounge servicing from Strigino Airport management and two open-date business class tickets on route Nizhny Novgorod - Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod from Aeroflot.

“For the first time in the last twenty years Nizhny Novgorod Airport managed to pass a milestone of 1000 000 passengers,” said at the official ceremony Strigino Airport’s Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. “With the arrival of Airports of Regions Management Company at the airport and the expansion of the route network, air traffic began to grow rapidly. Since 2010 passenger flow has tripled from 376 thousand to 917 thousand people in 2013 – it is a unique rate for Russia! And today, on November 6, 2014, Strigino has again become a million airport. We congratulate everybody and promise to make every effort to further develop the airport.”

“Air route Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod is one of the most significant for civil aviation in Russia,” said JSC Aeroflot’s regional representative in Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhnekamsk Alexander Tikhonov. ”It was to Nizhny Novgorod on July 15, 1923 that the first scheduled flight in the country was made, and in 2013 our company transported a record number of passengers for a route - more than 228 thousand (the occupancy of seats was over 70%). And we are very pleased that today one millionth passenger of Nizhny Novgorod Airport was checked in for our flight.”

The one millionth passenger of Strigino is a frequent flyer, he travels several times a month both on scheduled flights to other cities in Russia – on business (Andrew is engaged in construction and oil) and on charter flights abroad – on holidays. Andrew Kurnyshev was not aware of that day’s event at Nizhny Novgorod Airport: having arrived for check in as usually in advance he was genuinely surprised by the message: "You have become one millionth passenger, please accept our congratulations!"

“Basically, I consider myself to be a lucky man,” admitted Andrew. “But I have never won in a lottery, though I bought tickets many times. So it appeared to be a very pleasant surprise to me. Thank you!”

Strigino Airport offers more opportunities on Moscow destination this winter

Since October 26 Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) has switched to the winter timetable. 13 carriers will offer regular scheduled flights to 28 destinations in Russia and abroad and 4 airlines will operate 7 international charter routes.

Major changes have occurred in Nizhniy Novgorod - Moscow timetable, in the first place – with Aeroflot airline. Russia's largest carrier has rescheduled all five daily flights for an earlier time. The first Aeroflot’s aircraft now departs from Strigino to the capital at 05:05, the next flight leaves at 08:10, then at 11:15, etc. Thanks to the reshuffle, general timetable to the capital from Strigino has become more comfortable for passengers who got the opportunity to choose the most suitable time of departure according to their needs. All in all 9 daily services fly from Nizhny Novgorod to three Moscow air hub airports.

The domestic flight program reserved flights to Ekaterinburg, Samara, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Kirov, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhnekamsk, Norilsk, Penza, Perm, Izhevsk, Saratov, Surgut, Ufa, Syktyvkar, Ulyanovsk.

Nizhny Novgorod air travelers can go abroad on scheduled flights to Helsinki - Finnair retained in the winter timetable three weekly frequencies to the capital of Finland on the aircraft Embraer-190 (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). Lufthansa continued operating three flights a week to Frankfurt (Germany) on the Airbus-319 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Ural Airlines flies to Prague (Czech Republic) on the aircraft Airbus A-320 on Saturdays and to Dubai (UAE) on the Airbus A-321 on Sundays.

Winter charter program is launched at Strigino International Airport

Winter program of direct services from Nizhniy Novgorod Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) will be presented by 7 destinations: traditional Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada (Egypt), Goa (India), Phuket and Bangkok (Thailand), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), opened last winter and showing a high demand with Nizhny Novgorod passengers flight to Nha Trang (Vietnam) will be resumed. The first flights to the popular tourist resorts have already been completed, the program will open in full from October 26.

«The feature of the upcoming winter season will be the consolidation of the tourism market, it means, that tour operators will share an aircraft on the same destination reducing the risks both for business and direct buyers of package tours,» noted Airports of Regions MC’s Director for Aviation Business Development Vladimir Kamynin. «Currently it is more important for all the participants of the tourism market to keep the established set of customers and popular destinations with the high potential then to open exotic novelties and create for them a new audience.»

For example, in the first 9 months of 2014 the share of the Egyptian destination, which is a year-round, amounted to 11.1% in the total passenger traffic of Strigino Airport demonstrating as much as a 3% year-on-year growth rate. Egyptian resorts Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada are consistently ranked the 3rd most popular destination among Nizhny Novgorod passengers, so in the upcoming season tour operators will focus on this destination.

Strigino Airport is ready for the autumn-and-winter period

As a part of preparation for the autumn-and-winter period Strigino Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) carried out a complex of preventive measures aimed at ensuring the safety and regularity of flights in snowfalls and freezing temperatures, prepared the airfield maintenance equipment and accumulated a stock of chemicals and de-icing fluid.

During the preparation for the autumn-and-winter period the Airport conducted routine repairs of the apron and the runway for ice protection, bought sufficient amount of liquid and granular deicing chemicals certified for use at civil aerodromes, as well as the sand-and-salt mixture for treating local driveways and roads. Drainage facilities were checked to prevent flooding during the rain and melting of snow. Furthermore, skiddometers measuring braking coefficient passed additional tests.

All airport custom vehicles (including aircraft deicing machines) are prepared for operation in the autumn-and-winter period, all transport units underwent scheduled and seasonal maintenance and repairs. Strigino’s vehicle fleet includes graders, compact municipal cleaning machines, tractors, rotors and runway sweepers allowing to quickly clear the runway from snow. In addition, by the beginning of the autumn-and-winter period the airport acquired an aircraft heater trolley, which provides hot air at a temperature up to 90 degrees Celsius to the aircraft passenger cabin and allows to heat the cabin to a comfortable temperature within 10 minutes and warm up the aircraft engines before start up.

The Airport performed scheduled maintenance of water and heat supply networks of its facilities taking into account switching to winter operations and checked secondary and emergency power supply.

Personnel passed training for handling alternate aircraft landing, massive flight delays and congestions in the passenger terminal building, the Airport worked out the schemes of interaction with the related organizations in non-routine occurrences.

For reference: the autumn-and-winter period will last from October 26, 2014 to March 29, 2015.

Strigino Airport handled 900,038 passengers in the first 9 months

During January-September period of 2014 Strigino Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) serviced 900,038 passengers (a 29.3% increase year-on-year), out of them 450,035 (+ 34.7%) were domestic and 450,003 (+24.3%) - international. The number of departures went up by 18.2% and amounted to 7176 operations, freight and mail traffic climbed 12.2% (728 tons).

In the first nine months Strigino’s top domestic destinations were Moscow (329,850 passengers), St. Petersburg (37,949 passengers) and Samara (17,557 passengers) and international - Antalya (148,729 passengers), Hurghada (54,719 passengers) and Sharm el-Sheikh (44,771 passengers). Also it is already possible to make a conclusion regarding the success of a number of new routes opened this year. For example, 4286 passengers were transported to Palma de Mallorca, 4126 passengers travelled to Baku and back, 1688 passengers flew to Helsinki and 1470 passengers preferred Corfu (Greece), flights to Murmansk and Krasnodar also proved to be in demand.

In September 2014 Strigino Airport handled 122,904 passengers showing a 26.7% year-on-year growth rate. Passenger traffic on domestic flights totaled 56,152 people (+31%), international passenger flow recorded 66,752 people (+23.4%). The number of departure was 24.2% higher (950).

Strigino Airport passengers most frequently call the Hotline on Tuesday afternoons

Under the program to improve the quality of service Airports of Regions MC has strengthened the control over passenger information at the call-center of the holding’s airports - Koltsovo (Ekaterinburg) Strigino (Nizhny Novgorod) and Kurumoch (Samara). Now MC’s operations direction conducts the monthly monitoring analyzing all operators’ responses by a number of criteria including the promptness of response to the call, the completeness of the information, politeness, etc.

All in all in September the Hotline received 5908 questions about Strigino airport. The total duration of the operators’ consultations equaled 12631 minutes - more than 210 hours! Passengers are mostly interested in operational information about flight status, seasonal and online timetables, new destinations and airlines ticket prices, but there are also questions about animals carriage rules, in-flight food, privileges of business class passengers, Duty Free Shops, etc.

Also, the monitoring revealed several interesting trends. In particular, 2 minutes are enough for an average passenger to get an answer to the question – the number of such calls during September exceeded 3000. A quarter of those who made a call stayed within one minute, even less callers needed 3 minutes and more.

The call-center receives most calls on Tuesdays - almost 19% of the total. Next comes Monday (just over 17%) followed by Saturday (15%). Moreover, the bulk of the inquiries is recorded from 14 to 17 hours - during this time period in September the Hotline received 2200 calls.

We recall that Strigino passengers may ask their questions by calling 8-800-1000-333 (toll-free RF) and +7 (831) 269-38-19 (for calls from abroad).

Strigino is updating its fleet of snow cleaning machines for the winter season

Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) has begun an active preparation for the autumn-and-winter period. On October 26, the Nizhny Novgorod air harbor switches to the winter timetable, at present the schedule is under preparation, airlines are making adjustments to their regular and charter programs. Meanwhile, personnel of all operational departments of the airport is passing theoretical and practical training, tests on operating procedures, rules and regulations of aviation security, compliance to aerodrome traffic diagrams, operation of custom equipment, regulations for labor protection, etc.

This year particular attention was paid to preparation of the runway, taxiways and the apron: a total area of repaired surface is greater than 9000 square meters. To clear snow and ice from the apron the airport bought the most modern and powerful airfield maintenance equipment. The GSE and repair service of Strigino has recently come into possession of a Zaugg high-speed snow blower from Switzerland. This machine makes it possible to cut roadway snow and throw it at a distance of 50 meters. Capacity - up to 5000 m3 per hour. Using such snow blower allows to replace three similar vehicles of national production.

This year Strigino shall also receive a Schmidt jet sweeper (the first was put into operation last winter). In the short term the airport will buy a tractor with additional attachments to clear the runway lights. Two machines will be used for deicing the aircraft. All in all in the autumn-and-winter period of 2014-2015 Strigino Airport will utilize more than 15 vehicles, acquired through an integrated program to update the fleet of custom equipment, and altogether Strigino operates124 vehicles and mechanical devices.

More than 777,000 passengers have passed through the Nizhny Novgorod gateway year-to-date

A high-speed railway will go through Strigino Airport

Yesterday, on September 11 at the International Business Summit the Head of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev, JSC High Speed Rail Lines’s General Director Alexander Misharin and CJSC Airports of Regions MC’s General Director Evgeniy Chudnovskiy signed a cooperation agreement with a view to developing in the area of Strigino International Airport an intermodal transport hub bringing together the existing airport and the projected station of the high-speed railway Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod - Kazan (hereinafter – the HSR).

Currently, the project involves the construction of 2 high-speed railway stations in Nizhny Novgorod, one of which will be located at Strigino Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group). Cooperation between Airports of Regions, JSC High Speed Rail Lines and airlines will allow to offer passengers an integrated transport service - a single ticket from Moscow to the airport of destination.

- The construction of the high-speed rail line is actually an investment in the future, it is a strategically important project for us - said the Head of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev. – The HSR will give impetus to the development of adjacent areas and also can help us to ease road traffic.

- Nizhny Novgorod is geographically very close to Moscow. And, on the one hand, it is a minus - the capital draws most of the passenger flow off Nizhny - explains Airports of Region MC’s General Director Evgeniy Chudnovskiy. - On the other hand, the proximity to the capital easily turns into a plus: if it is possible to get from the center of Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod by the HSR within 1.5-2 hours, we will be able to "transfer" about 6 million passengers from the airports of the Moscow air hub to Strigino, in the first place, it will be interesting for the passengers flying to Southeast Asia. Then, Nizhny Novgorod Airport without exaggeration has all chances to become the fourth Moscow air hub airport, releasing the capital’s airports. Moreover, the construction of the HSR in the vicinity of Strigino will boost the airport’s territory –a new hotel, business and office centers will appear.

- In fact, the HSR is an inter-regional subway, trains reach speed of up to 300-400 kilometers per hour and in several times increase the mobility of people and business. It has for a long time been appreciated in the countries where active construction of the HSR is in progress: China, France, Japan - said JSC High Speed Rail Lines’s General Director Alexander Misharin.

The signed cooperation agreement between the Nizhny Novgorod region, Airports of Regions MC and Russian Railways will be valid for 5 years.

Strigino Search and Rescue Service has been certified by Rosaviatsia without remarks

Fire Fighting and Search and Rescue Service of Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Groups) has successfully passed the certification of the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia). The document was issued as a result of a comprehensive assessment of the Fire Fighting and Search and Rescue Service according to five criteria: general fitness of the personnel, special training of personnel, knowledge of the theoretical issues of search and rescue operations, technical facilities, and professionalism of actions during training.

The Commission of Rosaviatsia commended fire trucks operated by Nizhny Novgorod Airport and acquired in 2013-14 within the framework of the investment to upgrade the motor fleet. Currently Search and Rescue Service of Strigino possesses new fire trucks fitted with the most modern equipment and capable to move at a speed up to 100 km/h. A new container loader will handle passengers’ baggage

In August Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Region Group) received and will put into operation five units of new custom vehicles. The fleet is updated under an investment program implemented by Airports of Regions Management Company.

One of the most significant acquisitions of Strigino Airport was TLD TXL 737 container loader with loading capacity of 3.5 tones (previously used container loader is obsolete and greatly inferior to the new one in the number of characteristics). A new custom vehicle is able to lift and load into the plane two containers with the passengers' baggage simultaneously, it is easy to operate, suitable for all types of aircraft and allows to speed up and automate the technical procedure. 7.7 mln. rubles were invested in its acquisition.

A new ground power unit will supply foreign and Russian aircraft with electric power of 115 V or 28 V (depending on the aircraft type) and its cost is more than 4 mln. rubles. In addition, three cars for a total amount of more than 2.5 mln. rubles have already been delivered to Strigino Airport. One of them - a cross country car with a spacious storage compartment – was handed to the Aviation Security Department: all-wheel drive pick-up will ensure perimeter control of the airport territory.

- We consider renewal of custom equipment at the holding company’s airports one of our priorities - said Airports of Regions MC’s Technical Director Vasily Molodtsov. - Modern, multifunctional equipment enables our airport complex to meet the high standards of service in the course of routine operation and during peak periods. With the introduction of new aircraft handling equipment the passengers of Strigino Airport will be able to assess the result - a fast and high-quality service, and airlines will open new routes in a more comfortable and secure environment.

For reference: in 2013 Nizhny Novgorod Airport directed 220 mln. rubles to buying of custom vehicles. An airfield fire truck, a deicing machine, a jet sweeper, a Delta aircraft cabin heater, a Toyota towing tractor and a truck grader were bought and put into operation. All in all Strigino Airport utilizes more than 120 units of aircraft handling and airfield maintenance equipment.

Finnair opens Scandinavia for Nizhny Novgorod residents

On Saturday, July 26, the first flight to Helsinki departed from Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group). This flight launched the program establishing for first time direct air service between the capitals of Finland and the Volga Federal District. Now, three times a week Nizhny Novgorod residents can fly directly from Nizhny Novgorod Airport to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, and from there, thanks to the variety of fast and convenient connecting flights, get to almost anywhere in Europe, Asia and North America.

Flights on route Nizhny Novgorod - Helsinki will be operated by the Embraer 190 aircraft, the number of passengers - up to 100 people. Let’s note that the Finnair’s fleet is one of the youngest and most environmentally friendly in Europe: the average age of an aircraft is 7 years, long-haul - 3 years. JACDEC Research Bureau in 2012 named Finnair the safest airline in Europe and the second in terms of safety in the world. Presently air service is carried out by 57 Finnair airliners and 15 aircraft of Flybe Nordic (the subsidiary company), and in 2015, Finnair will become the first European buyer of the Airbus A350 XWB.

- It is gratifying that Finnair, a member of one of the largest alliances Oneworld, has now come to Nizhny Novgorod - shared his thoughts with the guests of the event Strigino Airport Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. – The start of Finnish carrier’s flights shows the interest of international airlines to cooperation with Nizhny Novgorod airport.

From Helsinki Nizhny Novgorod passengers can take the geographically shortest route to more than 60 European cities and 15 cities in Asia. Among the latest novelties of the season - Miami, Phuket, Krabi, Tromso, Biarritz, Pisa, even more flights to Dusseldorf, Zurich, Dubrovnik, Malaga, Paris, Rome and Tel Aviv.

- We are pleased to open today the flight program Helsinki-Nizhny Novgorod and to thank the authorities of Strigino Airport with whom we are cooperating effectively and who made a lot for this program to take place - said Finnair’s Commercial Director Allister Paterson. - We are starting with three flights a week and offer the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, both tourists and business passengers, to reach the main cities in Scandinavia, the Baltics and the most popular among Russians cities in Europe before 10 a.m., which provides not only an opportunity for business meetings but also good connections. Competitive prices, we hope, will also be of interest for the passengers.

Mr Allister Paterson pointed out that Finnair had been flying to Russia for 56 years, and Nizhny Novgorod had become the fourth city where the flights were performed, after Moscow, St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg.

Strigino passengers’ baggage is delivered quicker

A new carousel conveyor was put into operation in the baggage claim area of the passenger terminal at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group). Purchase and installation of this equipment were conducted under the service improvement program carried out by the airport, and became possible due to expanding of the arrival area of the terminal.

New carousel conveyor is installed in the domestic arrival area. The equipment allows to handle the arriving passengers quickly, meets the highest safety standards and is fitted with an emergency brake system. The conveyor in service in the domestic arrival area until recently now can be used, if necessary, as an extra both in the domestic and international areas. In addition, its operation allows to separate baggage delivery to passengers arriving from the EU and from the CIS countries.

So, now three baggage carousels are in operation in the terminal of Nizhny Novgorod International Airport. Because of this development the airport staff is capable to handle multiple flights simultaneously, and baggage waiting time for passengers reduced significantly. The service improvement program at Strigino is in progress.

Now it is possible to pay for parking at Strigino Airport by a credit card

Modern parking payment service has become available to all visitors of Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group). Four automated terminals are installed and put into operation in the short- and long-term parking areas of the Airport.

The new equipment allows drivers not only to make payments by plastic cards of international payment systems Visa and MasterCard, but also to use new contactless MasterCard PayPass and Visa RayWave, which are already called "technologies of the future." Their feature is that the chips providing the possibility of contactless payment can be embedded not only in bank cards, but also in key holders, watches, mobile phones and other devices.

- Airports in Europe and the USA saw cashless payment for parking long ago, in Russia this practice is just being introduced. First of all, because not every airport as Strigino possesses a modern integrated automated parking system capable to accept such payments, - said Airports of Regions Management Company Director for Non-Aviation Activity Tatiana Bateneva. - Parking payment by bank cards in the Russian Federation is possible only at Moscow airports and Pulkovo but via Paypass and Paywave technologies designed for more advanced users - only in Moscow. This week the service will also be launched at another airport-member of Airports of Regions Group - Koltsovo (Ekaterinburg).

Contactless MasterCard PayPass and Visa RayWave are in demand in developed countries as a quick and convenient way of payment for services in everyday life and are getting more popular in Russia. Comfort of parking payment by a credit card and other devices with contactless technology is that payment in the amount of up to 1,000 rubles is made one-touch without entering a PIN – a card or device is simply applied to the reader. Safety and reliability of payments are ensured by Uniteller processing company and certified by PCI PA-DSS safety standard.

We recall that new civilized parking complex was opened at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport in November last year. Entry into the territory of the airport is now organized through a system of barriers. For the first six months 382,977 people used parking services (for comparison: passenger flow at Strigino over the same period totaled 547,936 people).

34,742 feedbacks were left by Strigino passengers during the year

Passengers of Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) are generally positive about the level of service in the Nizhny Novgorod air terminal. 83 percent of all service level monitoring participants stated that they were served as "excellent", "good" or "fair".

We recall that in July 2013 complex feedback system for passengers was launched at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport. Inside the terminal building - in the departure and arrival areas, baggage claim sectors, business lounge - special devices were installed with the help of which everyone could rate Strigino as "excellent", "good", "fair", "poor", "very poor" (in Russian or English language). And also - to make a complaint for the service, report problems with baggage claim or, conversely, to convey thanks to the staff for courtesy. All applications were delivered and are being delivered directly to the airport authorities.

Over the past year (from July 7 2013 to July 7 2014) Strigino was evaluated by 34,742 passengers. And there we have the results:

excellent - 18,113 estimates (52%)

good - 6968 estimates (20%)

fair - 3707 estimates (11%)

poor - 2175 estimates (6%)

very poor - 3779 estimates (11%).

Let’s note that in the vast majority of negative feedbacks passengers criticize the outdated infrastructure of the existing terminal, complain of discomfort associated with the cramped premises, and express the need to build a new air terminal. Airport specialists immediately begin checks on applications that contain specific claims and provide an answer to the applicant (if the passenger’s contacts details are available). Positive reviews, as a rule, point out staff’s courtesy and improvements in operations.

The project on monitoring service level at the airport is in progress.

In the first half-year Strigino sees more than 500,000 passengers

Strigino Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) handled more than half a million passengers in the first 6 months of 2014. Total passenger traffic in the past half a year amounted to 515,313 people, which is 29.4% more than during the same period a year ago. Passenger flow on domestic flights grew up to 275,698 people (33.1% year over year increase), international – up to 239,615 people (+25.4%). The number of sorties increased to 4401 (+18.3%), freight and mail operations made up 523 tons.

Regional passenger traffic has grown significantly: to Simferopol (+101.5%), Kazan (+65.4%), St. Petersburg (+39.9%), as well as to the cities served under the program for subsidizing regional air transport in the PFD: Perm, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Kirov, Saratov, Izhevsk … All in all under the program during the first six months 5026 people flew from Nizhny Novgorod to 8 cities of PFD.

In June, 125,294 people used Strigino terminal, which is 31.5% greater compared to the same month last year of which 56,087 were domestic passengers (+38.8%) and 69,207 - international passengers (+26%). The most punctual airlines became Ak Bars Aero and Orenburzhye - by the end of June, more than 90% of their flights from Nizhniy Novgorod were performed on schedule.

A webcast of the new passenger terminal construction is launched at Strigino

A webcast of the new passenger terminal construction is launched on the official website of Strigino Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Group) www.airportnn.ru. Now website visitors can monitor the construction of the future terminal: machinery entering the construction site, foundation pit growing in size hour after hour, heavy bulldozers and tractors in operation. The webcast does not stop even at night (IR mode is activated).

A camera installed at a height of 25 meters transmits the image real time. Image quality is very high - Full HD, maximum resolution of 1920 x 1024 pixels (users may reduce image quality to medium or low according to their desire). The camera changes viewpoint automatically moving along a predetermined path and providing a complete overview of the construction site. Moreover, technical characteristics of the system allow simultaneous connection of up to 5000 users.

The Airport authorities expect that the new service will be of interest to the visitors of www.airportnn.ru. Let’s note that lately the popularity of the Internet resource has increased manifold: since 2011, when Strigino airport got a strategic investor - Management Company Airports of Regions– the website traffic has raised from 43,580 to 262,403 visits a month, the number of original visitors has gone up - from 6988 to 44,134 persons per month.

We recall that on June 10, 2014, the Acting Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev launched the construction of a new passenger terminal at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport. The area of the new terminal complex is 27.8 thousand sq. m - almost 3.5 times greater than the existing terminal (8679 sq. m). The new terminal will ensure high airport capacity - more than 800 passengers per hour and more than 1.5 mln. people per year.

- Direct flights to Krasnodar are certainly very promising: they will not only provide the residents of Nizhny Novgorod with the opportunity to get to all resorts of the Krasnodar Region, but also allow to establish business and trade ties between the two regions, - said Airports of Regions MC Director for Aviation Business Development Vladimir Kamynin. - Flights to Murmansk, in our opinion, in the first place will be in demand with businessmen, military men and sailors because Murmansk is one of the largest ice-free ports of the country. In addition, the destination is interesting for tourism development: from Murmansk you can quickly and budget friendly get to Scandinavia, tours to the Kola Peninsula with sea fishing, river cruises or foot marches along this amazingly beautiful region are also popular with the holiday-makers.

The Construction of Phase One of the Passenger Terminal at Strigino Has Begun

Today Strigino international airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company) has begun the construction of phase one of the passenger terminal. A symbolic start for the construction was given by the Acting Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev, Managing Director for Renova Group Evgeny Olkhovik, General Director for Airports of Regions Evgeny Chudnovsky and CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of PSJ František Vaculík.

- Today we are making a very important step - in the shortest time a new passenger terminal will be constructed: it will comprise a modern arrival and departure area, necessary infrastructure and lounges. I am convinced that we will get a new gateway to our region, and everyone who arrives, will say "finally"! - said the Acting Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev. - I would ask all companies that are involved in the construction process to work vigorously, smoothly, quickly and efficiently. Then we may afford to say that we have fulfilled our main mission. The region that gave the world such outstanding aviators as Nesterov and Chkalov deserves to have a beautiful, comfortable and convenient air gateway! Good luck!

- By the beginning of construction the airport had done a long but productive way: made a lease agreement for the land plot, received a building permit, executed a general agreement on the construction of phase one of the passenger terminal with Czech company PSJ, so it's safe to say that in half a year we will celebrate the housewarming in the new terminal - emphasized Managing Director for Renova Group Evgeny Olkhovik.

Commissioning of the new terminal for the VFD capital is scheduled for December 2015. Modern airport complex with a total area of 27.8 square meters will be equipped with four air bridges and its capacity will exceed 1.5 million people per year. Passengers will be able to check-in at 19 desks, in particular, one desk designed for bulky and oversized baggage, as well as a special check-in area for the groups with reduced mobility. For the comfort and convenience of passengers, spacious lounges and a mother and child are provided. Shops and cafes will be located on an area of over 1500 sq.m. A distinctive feature of the airport complex will be a modern automated baggage handling system and an automatic system for monitoring queues in the passenger handling areas. Car parking for more than 800 spaces is planned on the landside area. A provision is made for car parking spaces for the groups of persons with reduced mobility.

- It is important to note that the new terminal complex is a part of the large complex modernization program for Strigino airport including its federal part for the renovation of the apron, - said General Director for MC Airports of Regions Evgeny Chudnovsky. - Eighteen months later, Nizhny Novgorod will be proud of its passenger terminal - the first phase in implementing a large-scale renovation project.

On the basis of competitive negotiations Czech company PSJ was selected a general contractor for the construction of the first phase of the passenger terminal. Main spheres of activity: industrial and civil construction; transport construction; international construction; development activities; selected construction crafts. The company's construction portfolio includes diverse objects from the residential and commercial real estate to industrial and logistics facilities. PSJ, a.s is represented at international markets - in 25 countries.

- Our company has been at the Russian market for more than 20 years, and we have necessary experience and knowledge to help us meet our customer’s requirements - summed CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of PSJ František Vaculík.

Direct Flights Strigino–Pulkovo Mark Three Years

This day, June 6, marks exactly three years since UTair linked Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg by direct flights. Launching air service between the cities became a basis for strengthening business ties and development of tourism, as well as an alternative to rail transport, up to then not available.

- Saint Petersburg destination is the second largest air market for Russian carriers. Three years ago, UTair took a far-sighted decision to open the program from Nizhny Novgorod – says Vladimir Kamynin, Director for Aviation Business Development of MC Airports of Region. - Last winter after commissioning of the new passenger terminal at Pulkovo, reconstruction of its infrastructure and opening of new public transport routes to St. Petersburg, the direct flight from Strigino became even more attractive to the Nizhny Novgorod natives. However, most optimistic forecast for the route demand can be given for the end of 2015 when the new passenger terminal of Nizhny Novgorod international airport - modern, with most comfortable conditions for passengers and new high quality level of service will be put into operation.

- Over three years the airline has carried on this route more than 86,000 passengers and performed more than 1,800 flights in both directions, - commented UTair-Passenger Airlines President Oleg Semenov. – The service has been gaining popularity among passengers year after year due to its convenient schedule. It is attractive for both business travelers and holiday-makers.

Let’s note that only 20 passengers flew on board the first aircraft bound for St.Petersburg from Strigino. The Tu-134 operating the flight initially was subsequently replaced by the Bombardier CRJ-200, and in the last autumn-winter period due to steady demand and positive growth dynamics in passenger traffic the aircompany utilized the larger (up to 114 seats) airliner Boeing 737-500.

For the sake of passengers’ convenience check-in at Nizhny Novgorod airport closes 20 minutes before departure of the aircraft. The flights are operated daily at 07.55, the return flights from St. Petersburg - at 22.30. Travel time – 2 hours.

- The favorable geographical position of Finland allows passengers of Finnair flights to use the shortest routes from Europe to Asia. Finnair may become a preferred carrier for Nizhny Novgorod passengers to North America and Canada due to easy short connections at Helsinki-Vantaa airport - said Director for Aviation Business Development for MC Airports of Region Vladimir Kamynin. - In addition, Finnair is a global, serious brand with a good reputation at the market. The advent of this company at Strigino is a highly positive development as it capitalizes the reputation and increases the attractiveness of Nizhny Novgorod airport for potential passengers as well as other carriers.

According to the market research conducted by Strigino airport, more than 14,000 Nizhny Novgorod natives visited Finland in 2012-2013. In wintertime tours to the Finnish ski resorts and the residence of Santa Claus are in great demand, in summer - recreation at numerous lakes, rafting and fishing. In 2010, according to Newsweek, Finland joined the list of “The world's best countries”.

- Russian Federation is Finland's biggest trading partner outside the EU, for the Russians, Finland is also a favorable place both for business and holidays - says Finnair Managing Director Alistair Paterson. - Our new routes and frequencies will meet the demand of Russian passengers not only for trips to Finland, but also to other European destinations of Finnair’s route network available at the largest Finnish hub. We also hope that Europeans will have more opportunities to discover the historic city on the Volga River …

With the arrival of Finnair at Strigino airport passengers can avail themselves an opportunity to choose among three European carriers-members of the largest airline alliances in the world. This summer the natives of Novgorod Nizhny can travel from Nizhny Novgorod airport to almost anywhere in the world via European hubs: Frankfurt am Main (Lufthansa), Prague (Czech Airlines) and Helsinki (Finnair).

The project developed by the British architects is interesting in design and efficient in service technology - said Mr. Chechulin. According to him, modern engineering facilities will make passengers’ staying in the terminal comfortable, and technological equipment of the terminal will meet the highest international standards. In particular, the project provides for a modern automated baggage handling system, boarding bridges, an automatic system for monitoring queues in the areas of passenger service and others.

Note. According to the qualification held in late 2013 prior to competitive negotiations, in addition to PSJ, 13 companies were admitted, including four Turkish companies having their offices in Russia, a Czech company also having Russian subsidiaries, three companies from Moscow, two from St. Petersburg, one for each of Yekaterinburg, Saratov and Omsk.

16 new special equipment units will be in operation at Strigino Airport in 2014

In the first quarter of this year Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company) implementing its special equipment renewal program bought a catering mobile lift, a diesel power plant trailer, an introscope for baggage screening and parking equipment. All in all this year the airport plans to enlarge its fleet by 16 new special equipment units including a conveyor belt trailer, a mobile ground power unit, a 3.5 ton reach stacker, a high speed snow thrower for removal snow from the apron and runway, and other equipment.

In 2013, Nizhny Novgorod Airport directed 220 mln. rubles to buying equipment. An airfield fire truck, a de-icing machine, a jet sweeper, a Delta aircraft cabin heater, a Toyota towing tractor and a grader were bought and are currently in operation.

At present tenders for buying ambulances, utility vehicles, a cracksealing machine, a leader van, as well as a snow clearing jet sweeper are in progress.

- Increase in operations requires introduction of advanced technologies, so it is necessary to quickly take outdated special equipment out of service and replace it with modern, more technologically advanced and efficient - said Technical Director for Airports of Regions Management Company Ilya Moklokov. - Buying of new equipment along with technological solutions will significantly expand the capacity of Strigino Airport, accelerate the processes of acceptance and handling of baggage and freight and improve the quality of passenger service.

The current year’s budget also includes investment in upgrading of radio communication - Strigino will completely switch to the digital format. Digital radio communication has improved functionality for voice and data transmission, is more reliable and has larger coverage.

Strigino Airport plans to buy an ambulift for boarding disabled passengers, special vehicles for oxygen and nitrogen filling and new de-icing equipment, as well as subsequently increase special equipment park.

Let’s note that Strigino Airport in its operations utilizes more than 120 special vehicles and apron mechanical devices.

Nizhny Novgorod airport handled more than 300,000 passengers year-to-date

In the 4 months of 2014 passenger traffic at Strigino (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company) demonstrated a 23.6% year-on-year growth rate and amounted to 279,098 passengers. The increment on domestic flights was 32.7% (173,434 passengers), international destinations recorded an increase of 11.1% (105,664 passengers). In view of passengers carried during the May holidays, the total passenger traffic at Nizhny Novgorod air hub passed a milestone of 300,000 passengers. Freight and mail handled in the first 4 months totaled more than 330 tons.

During the January-April period 26 airlines performed regular flights to 39 destinations. Top 5 directions as of the 4 months traditionally remained Moscow, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, St.Petersburg and Samara.

In April of 2014 Nizhny Novgorod International Airport served 78,307 passengers. That was 20.7% more than in the previous year. The number of departures was 4.9% higher year-over-year (706), the volume of handled freight and mail made up 88 tons.

The highest growth in passenger traffic in April was recorded on scheduled and charter destinations: Goa 80.1 %, Antalya 58.6 %, St. Petersburg 57.2 %, Yerevan 55.6 %, Sharm el Sheikh 46 7 %. Flights to Moscow remain persistently in high demand: 39,368 persons flew to the capital and back, the passenger flow on this route experienced a 37.7 % increase by comparison with the same period a year ago.

Most punctual airlines in April UTair-Express and S7 performed 94% of their flights on schedule.

Domestic flights from Strigino are more popular with men, when international - with women

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company) conducted a market research in the form of a passenger survey. A total of 700 people aged between 18 and 65 were interviewed: 300 passengers of international flights and 400 domestic passengers (including 50 people in the business lounge). The objective of the research was creating a profile of an average passenger: socio-demographic characteristics, most popular routes, satisfaction with airport services and identifying of potential needs.

As a result, a typical domestic passenger appeared to be a man aged 25 to 44 with a degree, financially comfortable and married. He goes on a business trip or commercial travel from Nizhny Novgorod International Airport mostly traveling alone. He uses the airport services at least 1 time per month. Breakdown of respondents by occupations allowed distinguishing two major groups: managers and deputy managers and qualified specialists working in the office.

As to international routes, the situation is somewhat different. Most of passengers here are married women aged 25-44 with a degree. The purpose of flight in this category - tourism, recreation, and so the average frequency of flights, certainly, is less - 1 time per year or every six months. On the other hand, the majority is going with their families. Its financial status this group of respondents evaluates in much the same way as the domestic passengers, but occupations differ: qualified specialists working in the office and managers, deputy managers employed in commercial entities dominate. Also such groups as "retired", "worker", "housewife" are more numerous than in the domestic sector.

- Every year we conduct a research at the holding’s airports to obtain the estimates of our partner-operators (cafes, restaurants, shops) and understanding the needs of passengers, - noted Director of Non-Aviation Activity for Airports of Regions Management Company Tatiana Bateneva. - For us it is important to provide a variety of relevant services required by passengers. Such research gives an opportunity to take the opinion of passengers and further increase the range of goods and services that are in demand, and change the approach to the "weak" services.

In both groups, about half of the passengers expressed satisfaction with the range of services they can get at the airport. The other part of respondents consider necessary the emergence of a children's playground, mini-cinema, services for downloading books/movies to watch during the flight, as well as a capsule hotel and express manicure in the passenger terminal.

Strigino Airport is ready for higher intensity of operations during the spring-summer period

Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company) implemented an action plan to prepare for the spring-summer period. The expected growth of traffic in the summer months will reach 22.5 % compared to the winter period, so at present additional organizational and technological measures are already in place. In particular, theoretical and practical training, preseason maintenance and checks of special vehicles and buses, planned runway repairs, ornithological survey of the airfield have been carried out. Special attention was paid to training for the operational personnel involved in aircraft ground handling.

- According to the number of flight requests from the airlines for the summer period of 2014, we are planning a 20-25% rise in passenger traffic - noted MANN’s Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. - It is a significant increase, which requires well-coordinated work of all services to provide in peak load time security, convenience and comfort for passengers.

Operation of Strigino Airport in the summer months is largely affected by the geophysical position of the air harbor. The aerodrome is located in the low land, so rainfalls in the evening hours, as a rule, cause fogs in the territory of the airport at night. Such dangerous weather phenomena as thunderstorms, squalls, heavy showers also present a great difficulty for aviation in the warm season. New automated Doppler weather radar to be put into operation will help to forecast weather changes. Three terminals receiving its data will be installed at Nizhny Novgorod Airport. They are able to process and automatically transmit information to the appropriate departments at 10 minute intervals. Coverage area has increased to 250 kilometers - that is, precisely at such a distance Nizhny Novgorod Airport forecasters currently can notice approaching of severe weather phenomena and warn air traffic control services and flight crews.

The feature of the oncoming summer period will also be the beginning of phase one construction work of the new terminal covering the area of 27,800 sq. m. In this regard, the employees of Nizhny Novgorod Airport are set a task to reveal the best affirmative and efficient approach to all operational issues and implement this important project in a qualitative and timely manner.

Buying of foreign currency has become the most popular banking service with Strigino passengers

Opening an around the clock bank branch at Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company) allowed to meet the demands of passengers in currency exchange. Following the results of the first month’s operation of the Metcombank office at the airport (included in the top 100 most reliable Russian banks according to Forbes) we can conclude that the most popular service among passengers is buying of foreign currency before departure on international flights. Less frequent is a return exchange for rubles by the citizens arriving from abroad.

Like most modern airports, Strigino is being developed under the concept of Airport City - where the range of goods and services at the airport is represented as widely as, for example, in the city center, and at competitive prices. As a priority task Nizhny Novgorod Airport implements accommodation in the airport terminal of all services, which can be claimed by passengers. In the banking sector, as practice shows, it is remittances, payment of various fees, fines, and currency exchange. On the whole, the range of banking services at Strigino is currently presented by the offices of VTB and Metcombank, Sberbank ATMs, Gazprombank, CreditEuropeBank and Rosbank.

- Attracting operators to our holding’s airports, including banks, Airports of Regions Management Company, in the first place, tries to offer floor area to the companies with a stable reputation at the market, having in their portfolio a large line of services. Such counterparties can provide a high-quality service to passengers - noted Director of Non-Aviation Activity for Airports of Regions Management Company Tatiana Bateneva. - Banks for us are not merely lessees staying in the territory of the airport terminal, they are partners which influence the formation of general attitude of the passengers to the airport.

Let’s note, that according to the recent marketing research commissioned on request of PSC MANN the majority of respondents from amongst Strigino passengers expressed their high satisfaction with the range and quality of banking services, they obtained at Nizhny Novgorod Airport.

The range of mobile services for passengers at Strigino Airport has expanded

A new mobile check-in service has become available for passengers at Strigino International Airport (belongs to Airports of Regions Holding Company).

Mobile terminals for printing mobile boarding passes are put into operation as part of the program to improve quality of service. Devices designed to speed up the pre-flight procedures and make the check-in process more comfortable are located on the ground floor of the terminal.

Mobile check-in service will be especially popular with the passengers traveling without baggage. In this case, the departing passenger has only to pass the mobile check-in on the airline’s website or via any mobile application, get a 2D barcode on a mobile phone, and on arrival at the airport self-print out the boarding pass putting the stored code to the reader. Passengers traveling with the baggage can leave it at the check-in desk.

At the moment, the mobile check-in service is offered by Aeroflot, S7Airlines, Transaero (only for scheduled flights), as well as UTair through a mobile application. In the nearest future mobile check-in will be available for passengers of European carriers - Lufthansa and Czech Airlines.

In addition, Aeroflot and UTair passengers still can check-in at the airport with the help of self-service kiosks. Let’s note that self-check-in allows passengers to choose seats in the cabin.

In the first quarter the number of passengers at the Strigino International Airport increased by a quarter

During the first quarter of 2014  the Strigino International Airport (a part of the holding Airports of Regions) served  200 791 passengers: 24,7 %more than for the same period of the last year.  From January to March 2014 the trip abroad and back had   77 980 passengers (+15,5%), in Russia – 122 811 passengers (+31,4%). The number of flights increased by  19,8% and amounted to 1 908 operations. Freight and mail processed: 245 tones (+ 9,9%).

The past three month are characterized by the growth in passenger traffic on charter destinations   – Sharm el Sheikh (+51,9%), Bangkok (+94,7%), Goa (+33%), as well as on regular flights  – Moscow (+34,8%), Samara (+40%), Yekaterinburg (+50,3%).  From January to March there were 23 airlines which operated flights to 37 destinations.

Leaders in the growth of passengers are the same as for the quarter.

The most punctual airlines in March  are UTair-Express (in accordance to spring-summer schedule flies to Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Surgut) and Komiaviatrans (performs flights to Syktyvkar).

Strigino Airport recognized as the fastest growing airport in Russia

Strigino International Airport (a part of the holding Airports of Regions) received a title of “the fastest growing airport in Russia”. This Victory in the appropriate category the Strigino Airport  claimed at the IV. International forum of the Adam Smith Institute „Development of airports in Russia and the CIS“, held on  17-19 March, 2014. Award was established by the Adam Smith Institute together with the leading aviation scientific and industrial Portal AviaPORT in 2013.

The experts of Avia Industry responded by the conference organizers have highly praised the efforts of the management of Strigino Airport to create attractive conditions for the opening of new routs and increase of frequency on existing routs. The work related to the improving the quality of aircraft operating has been also taken into consideration of experts.  The final evaluation took   in account also extremely high potentials of passenger traffic growth of the Airport in the next 10 years.

Strigino International Airport is one of the most dynamically developing Airports in Russia, it demonstrates  steady rate of growth on key indicators.  Since the management company „Airports of Regions“ arrived, the passenger traffic of Strigino has increased  2,4-fold, with  376  673 persons in 2010 to 917 424 persons by the end of 2013, which proves the title of “the fastest growing airport in Russia”.  Early in this year the passenger traffic continued to show a rapid rate of growth.

Adam Smith International Forum is an independent platform for debate and exchange of experiences among participants of the aviation market in key industry issues.

Passenger traffic of Nizhny Novgorod Airport increased by 22, 8%

Nizhny Novgorod Airport Strigino passenger traffic (a part of the holding Airports of Regions) in 2013 compared to the results of 2012 increased by 22,8%  and amounted to  917 424 passengers.  There were 465 304 passengers  served on domestic flights, which is  24,3% more than the same last year’s rate, and   452 120 passenger on international flights (+21,3% compared to 2012). The number of departures increased by   24,5% and came up to 8 517 operations. The volume of cargo and mail traffic remained at the same level   – 1 098 tones for the period of 12 month of 2013.

– Due to rapid growth of the passenger traffic that exceeds industry-average indicators during two consecutive years we were able to serve more than 900,000 passengers  for the first time in 20 years, – said  Executive Director of  Strigino Airport Alexander Sinelnikov.  – According to the numbers of passengers carried, destinations provided and services introduced the airport is step-by-step coming to a level that is comparable by standards to the level of the million-city…

Like previous year the rate of growth on domestic flights exceeds the increase on international flights, and this Nizhny Novgorod’s trend is specific for the Russian aviation market.   This is due to two factors: the launching  of new destinations and increased frequency of existing flights.

For example, there are 9 flights a day from Nizhny Novgorod’s airport to Moscow since 2013- this is the maximum number of flights to the capital in the history of Strigino. Launching of two new frequencies on the Moscow route allowed to serve  22,8% more, or – in absolute terms -  63 298 passengers more than in 2012.  At the same time the rate of Moscow direction in the total passenger traffic has not increased because on a par with the growth of passenger traffic on flights to Moscow the number of passengers on other domestic flights is also increasing.   The largest percentage is marked on flights to Yekaterinburg (2,1-fold increase), Surgut (+53,2%), Ufa (+69%), Kazan (+83,2%), Astrakhan (2,9-fold increase), Saratov (  8,4-fold increase), Ulyanovsk (+74,7%), Samara (+40,2%), Belgorod (+51,9%), Rostov (+43%).

The implementation of the program for regional traffic development since April 2013 – which “brought” to the airport 31 751 passengers – has also affected the growth in the sector of domestic flights.  As a part of this program 10 routes were launched  (Izhevsk, Kazan, Ufa, Kirov, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Perm, Orenburg, Ulyanovsk, Saratov), increased frequency of Samara departures.

In 2013 the passenger of the International Airport Strigino were transported by aircrafts of 28 airlines:  22 Russian and 6 foreign; to the Nizhny Novgorod’s aviation market came at once 5 new carriers: «Orenburg Airlines», Air Europa, Kogalymavia, Ikar, «Yamal». More than  50% of all air transports belong to three  airlines   – «Aeroflot» (25,1%), «Ural Airlines» (14,4%) and «UTair» (13,6%). The Air Companies such as “Nord wind” and “Transaero” - carrying out charter programs -  have significantly increased the part in total passenger traffic; European air company  Czech Airlines has doubled its part compared with 2012.

Regularly flights from Strigino were performed in 55 directions: 26 of them countrywide and 29 – abroad.   Nine new routs have appeared in the schedule of the Nizhny Novgorod Airport in 2013:  Orenburg, Penza, Kirov, Syktyvkar, Anapa; Podgorica,  Larnaca, Burgas, Nanchang.  The most   popular by number of transported passengers became regular flights to Moscow, Frankfurt-am-Main, Saint-Petersburg, Samara, Prague and charter flights to Antalya, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, Barcelona and Heraklion.

However the leaders in the growth among international flights are Prague (+81,6%), Rhodos (2,5-fold increase), Phukhet  (2,4-fold increase) and Varna (+58%).

In addition to increasing passenger traffic and launching new destinations the year 2013 at the International Airport Strigino was marked by active preparations for the  construction of a new passenger terminal.  So in August 2013 MANN OAO  and the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region signed an  Agreement on the lease of a land plot for construction, a positive hygiene certificate for sanitary-hygienic zone from the Russian consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor in Nizhny Novgorod Region was obtained in  September, and in October a tender for the general contractor  was announced. In November a symbolic sign “Kilometre Zero“ was laid at the future construction site, and the outdoor parking for 480 cars became the first completed phase of complex reconstruction.

Construction of a new airport terminal will begin in Q4 2013

Today, at the executive meeting, MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov reported to the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev on the preparation works for the construction of a new passenger terminal and presented the construction project of a new parking lot. The governor outlined the period of laying the foundation stone of the new airport construction in December, the new parking will be introduced a month earlier.

«At present, the project of the future passenger terminal is submitted to Glavgosexpertiza,» - emphasized the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev. «Before starting the construction we will solve the problem with parking and introduce internationally adopted practice at Nizhny Novgorod Airport: it will have free parking and long term parking. The entrance to the landside area will be organized through a turnpike system, a 15-minute parking at the terminal will be free. This is important both in terms of passenger comfort and anti-terrorist security.»

You remember, the floor area of the new passenger terminal at the first stage will equal 25 thous. sq. m (for comparison – at present the total area of the airport building is 8679 sq. m), it will be equipped with 4 boarding bridges. Its capacity will increase to 1.5 million passengers a year. The passenger terminal will be built by the project of British architects who designed airports in the UK, Bulgaria and Malaysia. Putting into operation is scheduled for 2015.

«Once the project is approved by Glavgosexpertiza, we will announce a tender for the general contractor,»- explained MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. «The new terminal area will be 10,000 sq.m. greater than stated in the investment agreement, as the passenger traffic exceeded the forecasted levels.»

Due to the construction of the passenger terminal the existing airport parking capacity of 250 cars will decrease to 150 cars, but in November and December there will be three new parking lots: free parking for 100 cars, long-term parking for 120 cars and additional parking at the terminal for 200 cars. The entrance to the landside area will be organized through a turnpike system.

Nizhny Novgorod Airport the first in Russia to launch a comprehensive feedback system for passengers

Now every passenger departing from Nizhny Novgorod International Airport can evaluate the work of aviation hub employees. Nizhny Novgorod Airport has launched a comprehensive quality control system. You can give your comments, compliments, complaints regarding our services or report problems with baggage delivery directly at the check-in desk or at the gate.

«Opinion of our passengers is very important to us,» - explains MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. «To be able to monitor on-line, we have launched a new integrated system which is a combination of CCTV and computer technology. Similar systems are in operation at the leading airports worldwide: Singapore, Munich, San Francisco. As for Russia, in its final form, such system has been introduced for the first time at our airport.»

Under the service quality improvement program the terminal building was equipped with modern devices that can be utilized by any passenger. They are mounted in the most important service areas: at check-in desks, in the baggage claim area, at the gates and in the business lounge. On the screen you can see five emoticons: excellent, good, okay, bad, very bad (captions are made both in Russian and English).

If you click «Good», the device thanks for participating in the survey. But if you click «Bad», there also appears a window with a suggestion to state a problem and leave contact phone numbers.

All requests are received directly by the line managers of the airport. Airport Executive Director, Alexander Sinelnikov, has put responding to complaints under his personal control. The recordings of CCTV monitoring the entire area of the terminal and apron will help in the event of a dispute.

You remember that you can also comment on work of staff, baggage claim, technical failures at Nizhny Novgorod Airport at the official airport community in social networks - Facebook, Âêîíòàêòå, Livejournal.

«The growth of passenger traffic at Nizhny Novgorod Airport continues to outpace the industry average,» - noted MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. «This has been achieved through a combination of factors: launching of new routes, increase in frequency with a glance to passenger convenience, competitive air ticket prices and improving of airport infrastructure. As a result, load factor is rising, and air travel is becoming more popular. Even those passengers who formerly chose other means of transport or preferred to travel via Moscow airports began to use Nizhny Novgorod Airport services.

All in all, over the past six months, 29 Russian and foreign airlines served Nizhny Novgorod Airport. Aeroflot (26.6% of all passengers), Utair (16.0%) and Ural Airlines (15.2%) remain the leaders.

Currently, you can fly from Nizhny Novgorod to 14 cities in Russia (Moscow, Anapa, Belgorod, Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Kirov, Norilsk, Penza, Samara, Sochi, St. Petersburg, Surgut, Ufa, and Chelyabinsk) and 24 cities abroad (Antalya, Baku, Burgas, Barcelona, Sofia, Dalaman, Dushanbe, Yerevan, Heraklion, Larnaca, Monastir, Namangan, Paphos, Prague, Podgorica, Pula, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, Simferopol, Tashkent, Tivat, Frankfurt, Hurghada, and Sharm el -Sheikh).

Aeroflot adds another flight to Moscow

Starting from 26 October 2013, the leading Russian carrier, Aeroflot - Russian Airlines, will perform5 daily flights from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow. The overall frequency on this route will achieve 8 services a day. Launching of the new frequency makes flight schedule even more convenient for business and transit travelers: aircraft will depart from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport (Terminal D) at 06.05, 09.05, 11.10. 17.30 and 21.55. Reservations are already available with all booking systems.

Aeroflot is not only increasing the volume of traffic, but also actively developing additional services. In May, self-service check-in kiosks were installed at Nizhny Novgorod Airport allowing passengers to reduce check-in time, select seats in the cabin, and, if possible, to be placed next to the family or friends. The baggage is to be dropped at the common check-in desks. Nizhny Novgorod has become the 8th city in the world after Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Tokyo, London, Larnaca and Prague, where self-service check-in kiosks are installed.

In addition, Nizhny Novgorod in one of 19 destinations of Aeroflot route network, where «Business Pass» fare product, an integrated round-trip ticket for several flights, is available. Since the beginning of 2013 «Aeroflot –Shuttle» program is offered for passengers traveling on route Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod - Moscow. This program provides that check-in ends 30 minutes before departure at Sheremetyevo Airport and 20 minutes before departure at Strigino Airport.

«Integrated development of Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod route by Aeroflot suggests that the carrier has thoroughly studied all the features and benefits of our market, its capacity and regards this destination as one of the most promising in its network,» - noted MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov.

You remember that Aeroflot entered the Nizhny Novgorod aviation market on June 17, 2011. The collaboration began with two daily flights Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod. As early as in October 2011, the carrier introduced the third frequency on this route due to the high demand. A year later - the fourth. According to the records of 2012 one in five passengers departing from Nizhny Novgorod used Aeroflot services. All in all last year flights of the national carrier transported 162,553 passengers, or 21.8% of total passenger traffic at Nizhny Novgorod Airport. This is the highest rating among the airlines offering transportation to Strigino, and it continues to grow.

The Program for Regional Aviation Development has been launched at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport

First flights from Nizhniy Novgorod to Kirov, Penza, Samara, Ufa and Kazan have been performed today, on April 1, under the program for regional traffic development in the Volga Federal District. The first passenger flight was seen off by the Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Commission for the Development of General Aviation Jury Trutnev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich, MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov and chief executives of the airlines-operators of the project.

«The main advantage of the project is the increase in business activity and mobility of our fellow citizens, after all, both in human life and in the economy time is the main and most expensive resource,» - noted at the press conference on the occasion of launching the program Jury Trutnev. «The faster the journey from one city to another inside the country (and the total time savings of passengers in transit compared to travel by land transport is estimated at 1.5 million hours per year), the higher the rate of economic growth.»

The program for regional traffic development is designed for six months - from April 1 to November 1, and the flights will be launched in stages. Today services to five destinations have been introduced, in June one more flight to Samara will be added (total frequency of flights to Samara will equal 3 flights per day), on September 1, you can fly from Nizhny Novgorod to Izhevsk, Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Perm and Nizhnekamsk. Passengers will pay only 50% of the cost of the air ticket, the remaining 50% will be compensated by carriers from the federal and regional subsidies. The difference of this project from the common flights within the district is that the special rate tickets for flights between the subjects of the VFD will be available to all categories of citizens of the Russian Federation, without age and social status limits.

«In the preparation stage of the project we managed to agree on the federal and regional subsidies for tickets to the passengers, administrative barriers were removed, VFD regions provided substantial support to launching of new flights between the subjects of the district,» - noted the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich. «We believe that this model of air travel subsidizing is successful, the decision on implementation of the proposed model in all federal districts of the Russian Federation in 2014 will be taken based on the results of the project in the first half of 2013.»

You remember that Aircompany Tatarstan was chosen for implementation of the pilot project on organization of air traffic in the VFD. Aircompany Tatarstan has formed a pool of carriers - UTair, ZAO Aviamenedzhment Group FSUE Airport Orenburg, AK BARS AERO - who will also be able to carry out regional flights on aircraft with small seating capacity. Thus, three L410 planes have already been purchased by FSUE Airport Orenburg, 15 Cessna aircraft will be held by Aircompany Tatarstan - 3 already acquired in March, 3 to be gained in May and 9 aircraft will join the fleet in September, 6 Pilatus aircraft have already been provided to support the project by ZAO Aviamenedzhment Group.

«To all airlines providing regional air service the airport has granted discounts on ground handling at a rate of 60% - this is our contribution to the project, because we are interested in launching of new routes and in the growth of passenger traffic,» - emphasized MANN Executive Director Alexander Sinelnikov. «According to our estimates, the project will allow to increase passenger traffic by 10-15%.»

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport has been authorized to receive the Boeing 767-200/300 aircraft

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (“Airports of Regions” holding company) has been authorized to receive the Boeing 767-200 and Boeing 767-300 aircraft and their modifications. The corresponding order was signed the day before by the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya). As of today, the Boeing 767-200 and Boeing 767-300 are the heaviest types of foreign aircraft Nizhny Novgorod airport is allowed to take.

The authorization to receive the Boeing 767-200/300 significantly expands the opportunities for airlines, who can now organize a network of flights from Nizhniy Novgorod for the long-haul wide-body aircraft which is obviously more profitable for carriers from a commercial point of view. Passengers will also benefit because these types of aircraft are in the fleet of large and reputable airlines.

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport is approved to receive more than 50 types of Russian and foreign aircraft, as well as all types of helicopters and common types of business aircraft.

For information:

The Boeing 767-200 is a wide-body airliner designed for operation of medium and long-haul flights (up to 9200 km). It gains cruising speed up to 850 km/h. Passenger capacity depending on the layout is up to 255 seats.

The Boeing 767-300 is a long-range wide-body airliner. Range - 12,000 km. Cruising speed - 850 km/h. Passenger capacity, depending on the layout is up to 300 seats.

MANN’s passenger flow in 10 months increased by two-thirds

Over the 10 month period of 2012 Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (“Airports of Regions” holding company) handled 622,543 passengers, 64.8% more than the figure of 2011. In particular, passenger traffic recorded on domestic flights amounted to 305,839 passengers (+77.8%), and on international flights - 316,704 passengers (+54%). The aircraft departures also went up recording 5623 aircraft movements during the January-October period of 2012, this performance indicator grew by 22.6% compared to the same period last year. Cargo and mail traffic rose by 2.4%.

The greatest increase of passengers in the last 10 months experienced scheduled domestic flights to Moscow, St.Petersburg, Norilsk, Gelendzhik and Chelyabinsk. The most popular tourist destinations were Hurghada, Varna, Dubai, Goa and Heraklion. On CIS destinations the highest growth in passenger flow was seen on flights to Tashkent and Dushanbe.

The significant rise of traffic in the first 10 months of 2012 was shown by Aeroflot - Russian Airlines, UTair, OrenAir, Ural Airlines and S7.

In October this year passenger traffic amounted to 64,067 passengers, recording 41.5% gain in comparison with October 2011. Domestic flights transported 33,507 (+39.4%) passengers, international flights – 30,560 passengers (43.8%). The number of aircraft departures represented a 9.4% climb, and reached 583 aircraft movements. Cargo and baggage traffic stayed at the same level as in October 2011.

We remind that since October 28 Nizhny Novgorod Airport has been operating under the autumn/winter timetable. Several domestic and international destinations at a time became the novelties of the season, for instance, AK BARS AERO launched regular flights on routes Nizhniy Novgorod - Rostov-on-Don - Sochi and Nizhny Novgorod – Mineral’nye Vody.

The tourist novelties introduced to the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod were Aqaba (Jordan), Sharjah (UAE), Larnaca (Cyprus) and Phuket (Thailand). Moreover, in the new autumn/winter season regularity of flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Prague was increased.

New flights to Russia and Abroad Appear in Autumn/Winter Timetable of Nizhny Novgorod International Airport

The new autumn /winter timetable of Nizhny Novgorod International Airport ("Airports of Regions" holding company), effective from October 28, is planning scheduled flights to 18 destinations, including nine federal, three international and six flights to the CIS countries. Charter flights will be operated on nine international routes. Winter navigation of 2012/2013 introduces new services from Nizhniy Novgorod to Mineral’nye Vody (October 5), Rostov-on-Don and Sochi (November 17) among international novelties - Larnaca (Cyprus), Phuket (Thailand), Aqaba ( Jordan) and Sharjah (UAE).

Let’s note, that under the new timetable flight frequency on many existing routes increased. Thus, positive changes experienced, in the first place, the main "business" destinations. On October 1, AK BARS AERO opened daily evening service to St. Petersburg. With this flight the number of everyday departures to St. Petersburg increased to two. Starting from October 28, Aeroflot launches extra frequency to Moscow, so the number of its daily flights rises to 4 per day, and the total number of flights to Moscow from Nizhny Novgorod will be 7 per day. Moreover, from October 28 the number of departures to Prague will increase from two weekly flights to three by adding one service, so in the autumn/winter period flights to the capital of the Czech Republic will be operated three times a week - on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays giving the passengers more opportunities for flying.

Tourist destinations are not an exception: charter flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will be, in addition to Orenair, conducted by Ural Airlines. In the autumn/winter period Ural Airlines will continue scheduled flight to Dubai, opened for the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod last year, Rusline and Taimyr will also operate the line. Three carriers at a time - Ural Airlines, Transaero and Orenair are coming on route Nizhny Novgorod – Hurghada. Additionally, the new timetable will also offer traditional for Nizhny Novgorod "winter" flights to Goa and Bangkok.

- Expansion of the route network and increasing of the flight frequency, indisputably, impacts the growth of passenger traffic: since the beginning of this year, we have served more than 600,000 passengers, almost 70% greater than in the same period of 2011 - commented MANN General Director Alexander Sinelnikov. - This also increases the average passenger load and confirms that the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod choose the direct flights rather than Moscow hub services. In case of maintaining the outlined tendency, passenger traffic in 2013 will break the psychological mark of one million passengers.

In addition, as part of preparation for the autumn/winter navigation Nizhny Novgorod Airport carried out a complex of preventive measures aimed at ensuring safety and regularity of flights in adverse weather conditions. In particular, ground support equipment, special vehicles (including aircraft anti-icing vehicles) are ready for use in the autumn/winter period, all transport units passed scheduled seasonal maintenance and repairs. Ice-melting chemicals (liquid and granular) for the apron and runway maintenance and anti-icing fluids for processing different types of aircraft were procured in sufficient quantities. Maintenance of water and heating facilities networks was accomplished, taking into account operation in winter conditions. Personnel passed training for handling alternate aircraft landing, massive flight delays and congestions in the passenger terminal building. Airport operational readiness for the autumn/winter period is confirmed by the flight safety inspection of the Volga Interregional Territorial Department of Air Transport of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

Nizhny Novgorod International Airport Launches a Call Center

Since today’s date, Nizhny Novgorod International Airport (“Airports of Regions” holding company) has launched a call center for passengers: 8-800-1000-333. Now, the information about arrivals and departures of flights, airport services, general rules of air travel and airlines contact details can be obtained from the call-center operators. You can find information on booking, tariffs, choice of routes and ticketing at the ticket offices and on the website of Nizhny Novgorod Airport. In future, we will develop a special service for booking air and train tickets based on the call-center.

Depending on the number of calls the call-center can be serviced by as many as15 operators, including English-speaking ones. Up to now, the information services at Nizhny Novgorod Airport were provided by one operator per shift, who often had difficulties processing all the requests. With the transition to the airport call-center the dialup difficulties will be removed. All conversations with the airline passengers will be recorded for monitoring the quality and optimization of service.

Nizhny Novgorod Airport call-center 8800 1000 333. Toll-free in the entire territory of Russia.

For the business season Nizhny Novgorod Airport launches additional flight to St. Petersburg

From October 1, Nizhny Novgorod International Airport adds one more daily flight to St. Petersburg to its timetable. Ak Bars Aero is staring the service having signed an agreement on the development of regional transportation with the airport and the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region in July. Direct scheduled flight to the northern capital will be operated on the 50-seat aircraft CRJ-200, departure from Nizhniy Novgorod at 17:45, flight time - 1 hour 45 minutes.

Let’s recall, that the regular service between Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg was resumed in June 2011 by UTair after a 15-year break. Since then, the daily morning flight has established itself in the timetable of the Nizhny Novgorod aviation hub, and become the second popular domestic flight carried out from Nizhny Novgorod Airport. Average passenger load keeps at 90% or higher.

- When we launched scheduled flights to St. Petersburg a year and a half s ago, we predicted the strong demand for this destination, and our estimates came true. Furthermore, in the beginning of 2012, it became apparent that the demand for this route is beyond the capacity of one flight a day, commented MANN General Director Alexander Sinelnikov. - This is why, when developing specific actions under the regional development program, and planning to open 10 new routes (5 to the west and 5 to east of the country), primary attention was paid to launching of the St.Petersburg’s flight.

Additional daily flight during the autumn/winter period will make the Nizhny Novgorod Airport timetable more convenient for passengers:

Departure from Nizhny Novgorod / Arrival at St.Petersburg

Departure from St.Petersburg / Arrival at Nizhny Novgorod

07:40 / 09:40

21:00 / 23:00

17:45 / 19:30

09:40 / 11:25

Moreover, for greater mobility of passengers, check-in at the St.Petersburg destination closes 20 minutes before the departure.

Sales for the new flight have already opened in all reservation systems, as well as in all ticket offices of the city. Tickets without agency fees and charges can be purchased from the airport website on page "Book Online."

The Number of Weekly Flights to Prague Increased to Three

On October 28 this year the number of weekly departures to Prague will be increased by adding one additional flight, so in the autumn/winter period flights to the capital of the Czech Republic will be operated three times a week - on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. At the same time, departure times are also changed, for convenience of business travelers and tourists flights on working days will be operated at 05:45, Sunday’s departures are scheduled for 06:40.

- Out of 13 new destinations, which have appeared in the airport timetable this year, the flight to Prague has become one of the most popular: since opening of the direct service to the Czech Republic more than 5000 people have chosen it, - commented MANN General Director Alexander Sinelnikov. - With the current steady demand, launching of additional flight is a natural step. In addition, the Czech Republic is attractive both for businessmen and tourists all year round, so the passenger flow on this route will only increase.

Let’s note, that Prague has become the second European city after Frankfurt, connected by regular direct air service with Nizhny Novgorod, and introduction of additional frequency opens up opportunities for daily flying to Europe. Moreover, the flight timetable is arranged to provide convenient connections for subsequent flights, in particular, to Paris, Rome, Strasbourg, Geneva, Amsterdam and other cities.

Let’s recall, that direct flights to Prague have become available for the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod since March 2012. Czech Airlines operates flights on board the aircraft A-319, Ural Airlines – on the A-320. Flight time - 3 hours 20 minutes. Tickets are available from the airport website on page "Book Online."
